Canadian Solar's First U.S. Facility to Open in Mesquite, Texas

by Josh Bays, on Jul 19, 2023 7:00:00 AM

Site Selection Group, a global location advisory, economic incentive, and corporate real estate services firm, helped Canadian Solar with site selection and real estate services to secure a 750,000 SF industrial building with a robust utility infrastructure. This will be a state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic module manufacturing plant with an annual output of 5 GW, equivalent to approximately 20,000 high-power modules per day. This will be Canadian Solar’s first production facility in the United States.

“We are incredibly excited for Canadian Solar to expand their manufacturing legacy to the United States.”, explained Josh Bays, Senior Partner at Site Selection Group. “The stars aligned and this opportunity offered the right mix of resources to ensure this new plant will be successful for many years to come.”

Site Selection Group successfully identified a quality industrial building with robust utility capacities surrounded by a viable labor market and expedited the process to achieve the client’s speed-to-market objectives.

"Canadian Solar's new $250 million manufacturing plant in Mesquite will bolster Texas' status as the energy capital of the world and secure our leadership as a global tech hub," said Governor Greg Abbott. "I thank Canadian Solar for choosing Texas for their next U.S. business investment and for creating 1,500 new jobs in the region to help boost the community for generations to come."

Mesquite Mayor Daniel Aleman, Jr. added, "We are very proud to have a company like Canadian Solar in Mesquite and appreciate their investment in our city. We look forward to a great partnership with them and the impact they will make on our community."

Canadian Solar was founded in 2001 in Canada and is one of the world's largest solar technology and renewable energy companies. It is a leading manufacturer of solar photovoltaic modules, provider of solar energy and battery storage solutions, and developer of utility-scale solar power and battery storage projects with a geographically diversified pipeline in various stages of development.

Dr. Shawn Qu, founder and CEO of Canadian Solar, said, "Establishing this factory is a key milestone that will enable us to better serve our U.S. customers with the most advanced technology in the industry. We hope that this is the first of many long-term investments we expect to make in the U.S. as we think strategically about a sustainable and resilient clean energy supply chain. We thank the State of Texas, Dallas County, and the City of Mesquite for their critical support and we look forward to working with them as we grow."
