Site Selection Group Drives Progress in Wisconsin Certified Sites Program

Site Selection Group, a global location advisory, economic incentive, and corporate real estate services firm, is proud to continue its partnership with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Certified Sites Program. This year’s program highlights innovation, progress, and new opportunities for economic growth across Wisconsin.
2024 Round Highlights
For the 2024 Certified Sites Program, SSG evaluated two promising locations:
- Milwaukee: A significant urban brownfield site with a history of prior development, now remediated and positioned for redevelopment opportunities.
- Sheboygan: A strategically located greenfield site with strong potential for impactful industrial use.
Notably, this year marks the first time a brownfield site has been admitted to the Certified Sites Program, reflecting a major milestone in the initiative’s efforts to diversify development opportunities and promote the reuse of industrial sites across the state. Both sites are actively working to complete their certification activities, aligning with program standards to attract investment and drive economic growth.
In addition to its evaluation efforts, SSG introduced a new resource for program participants: the “WEDC Certified Sites Map Guide.” This innovative tool provides participants with example maps that detail required components and best practices and an editable version for customization. By offering clear guidance and a practical reference point, the Map Guide simplifies the certification process and ensures participants are equipped to meet program requirements effectively.
Ongoing Support for 2023 Sites
SSG continues to provide strategic support to sites from the 2023 round. Among these, two sites are on the verge of completing their certification process, signaling their readiness for development.
SSG and WEDC are excited to complete the certification process for the 2023 class of certified sites and welcome them to the program during 2025.
